Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain English, how INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD (trading as OUTDOOR EXTENSION LEADS) collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information when you browse our website, order an Outdoor Extension Lead, an Armoured Outdoor Extension Lead, Electrical Supplies or a Sofa, contact our support team, or otherwise interact with us at outdoorextensionleads.co.uk.

Last updated and effective from: 3 September 2026
01 — Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

The company behind outdoorextensionleads.co.uk.

Outdoor Extension Leads is the trading name of INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD, a company registered in England & Wales under company number 16845629, with our registered office at 3rd Floor, 86-90 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation ("UK GDPR") and the Data Protection Act 2018 ("DPA 2018"), we are the data controller of the personal information described in this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy applies to anyone who visits outdoorextensionleads.co.uk, requests a quote or product information, places an order for an Outdoor Extension Lead, an Armoured Outdoor Extension Lead, an item from our Electrical Supplies range or a Sofa, contacts us by email, phone or live chat, subscribes to our marketing emails, or otherwise gives us personal information in connection with our business.

We sell electrical products and upholstered furniture exclusively to consumers and trade customers within the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). We do not currently sell or ship internationally, and this Privacy Policy is written specifically for that UK-only business model.

02 — Information We Collect From You

What we actually ask for, and nothing more.

We only collect information that helps us process your order, deliver your extension lead or sofa safely, support you afterwards, or run our business responsibly. The categories below cover everything we may collect, depending on how you interact with us.

Identity & contact data

Full name, delivery and billing address, email address and telephone number, provided when you place an order, create an account, contact us, or sign up to marketing emails.

Order & transaction data

Products purchased, cable lengths, colours and socket configurations selected for made-to-order Outdoor Extension Leads, order value, order history, delivery preferences (Standard or Express), and any notes you leave at checkout such as gate codes or access instructions.

Payment data

Your payment method type and the last four digits of your card, retained by our payment processor for verification purposes. We do not receive, view or store your full card number, expiry date or CVV — see Section 10 for full detail on how payments are handled.

Trade & account data

If you create a customer account, or if you buy from our Electrical Supplies range as an electrician or contractor and ask us to invoice a business, we may also hold a business or trading name and a VAT number where you provide one.

Support & correspondence data

The content of emails, live chat transcripts, and call notes when you contact us — including, where relevant to a returns or warranty query, photographs you choose to send us of a faulty product, a damaged delivery, or a sofa fabric issue.

Technical & usage data

Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, pages viewed, time spent on our site, referring website, and general location data derived from your IP address (typically at town or city level, not precise location).

Marketing preference data

Whether you have opted in or out of marketing emails and SMS, and which categories of product update (extension leads, electrical supplies, sofas) you have shown interest in, so that we do not send you irrelevant content.

We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health information, religious belief or biometric data) through our website, and we ask that you do not include such information in order notes, live chat, or correspondence with us.

03 — How We Collect Your Information

Directly from you, and a little automatically.

Directly from you

When you place an order, create an account, join our mailing list, use live chat, email us, call us on +44 7427 230720, or fill in the details needed to customise a made-to-order Outdoor Extension Lead.

Automatically, via cookies

Our website, hosted on Shopify's platform, uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your basket, keep you signed in, and understand how visitors use the site. Full detail is set out in Section 06.

From our service providers

Our payment processor confirms whether a payment was successful and provides fraud-risk indicators; our couriers provide delivery status updates that we may show you or use to contact you about your order.

From publicly available sources

Where you order Electrical Supplies for a business and provide a company name, we may verify basic company details (such as registration status) using public registers such as Companies House, for fraud-prevention purposes only.

04 — How and Why We Use Your Information

Every use has a lawful basis under UK GDPR.

Under the UK GDPR, we must have a valid legal basis for every way we use your personal information. The table below sets out our main purposes and the legal basis relied on for each one.

Purpose
Legal basis
Taking and processing your order, arranging delivery, and providing customer support relating to that order
Performance of a contract with you
Manufacturing your Outdoor Extension Lead to the exact cable length and specification you order
Performance of a contract with you
Processing payment, preventing fraud, and verifying your identity where a payment looks unusual
Performance of a contract; legal obligation; legitimate interests
Handling returns, refunds, warranty claims and statutory cancellation requests
Legal obligation; performance of a contract
Keeping financial and tax records as required by HMRC and UK company law
Legal obligation
Sending you marketing emails or SMS about new products, restocks or offers
Consent, or legitimate interests where you are an existing customer and have not opted out
Running non-essential cookies, analytics and advertising pixels
Consent, given through our cookie banner
Improving our website, product range and customer service based on how the site is used
Legitimate interests
Detecting, investigating and preventing fraud, chargebacks and misuse of our website
Legitimate interests; legal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether that use could unfairly affect you, and we do not use your data in ways that override your rights and freedoms. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time as described in Section 11.

05 — Information Specific to Each Product Range

Because a made-to-order cable and a sofa need different information.

We sell across four ranges, and each collects slightly different information beyond the standard order and delivery data described in Section 02.

Outdoor Extension Leads

As every lead is hand-assembled to order, we record the cable length, plug and socket configuration, and colour you select at checkout. This specification data is used solely to manufacture your lead correctly and is kept with your order record.

Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads

For permanent installations, you may voluntarily share installation notes (for example, cable run length or routing) in your order notes or in correspondence with us so that we can advise on the right product. We do not request or require any information about your property beyond what you choose to share.

Electrical Supplies

Where you buy components such as IP66 sockets, SWA glands or junction boxes as a trade customer, we may hold a business name and VAT number for invoicing, and — where you ask us to — bulk order history to speed up repeat trade orders.

Sofas

For sofa deliveries we may collect access notes (such as parking restrictions, stairs, or narrow doorways) that you provide to help our two-person delivery team, and, if you raise a fabric or frame concern, photographs you send us to assess a warranty or return.

06 — Cookies, Pixels and Similar Technologies

What a cookie does on this website, and how you control it.

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit our website. We use cookies and similar technologies in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 ("PECR"), as amended, and the UK GDPR. On your first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies; you can change your choice at any time through your browser settings or the cookie preferences link in our website footer.

Strictly necessary

Required for the website to function — keeping items in your basket, remembering your session as you move between the Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Leads, Electrical Supplies and Sofas collections, and enabling secure checkout through Shopify. These cannot be switched off and do not require consent under PECR.

Analytics

Help us understand which pages, products and content perform well, so we can improve the site. These are set only with your consent and are anonymised or aggregated wherever possible.

Advertising & remarketing

Used, with your consent, to show you relevant adverts for our products on other websites and platforms, and to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns. These may involve sharing a pseudonymised identifier with advertising platforms, as described in Section 07.

Preference cookies

Remember choices you have made, such as currency or a dismissed notification, so we do not ask you again on your next visit.

07 — How We Share Your Information

We never sell your data. Here is who else touches it.

We share personal information only where it is necessary to run our business, deliver your order, or comply with the law — never as a sale of your data to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Shopify (platform provider)

Our website is built and hosted on Shopify's e-commerce infrastructure. Shopify processes personal data on our behalf to operate the store, manage checkout, and store order records, acting as our data processor under a data processing agreement.

Payment processors

Card, wallet (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay) and PayPal payments are processed by regulated payment providers who receive your payment details directly to authorise and complete your transaction securely. We do not have access to your full card number.

Couriers & delivery partners

We share your name, delivery address and contact number with the courier fulfilling your order — including two-person delivery teams for sofas — so that your parcel or item can reach you and you can be contacted about delivery timing.

Email & SMS marketing platforms

If you opt in to marketing, we use a marketing platform to send emails or SMS messages on our behalf. That provider processes your email address, name and purchase interests strictly to send communications we authorise.

Analytics & advertising platforms

Where you consent to analytics or advertising cookies, aggregated or pseudonymised usage data may be shared with providers such as website analytics tools and advertising networks, to help us understand site performance and show relevant adverts for extension leads, electrical supplies and sofas.

Professional advisers & authorities

We may share information with our accountants, insurers or legal advisers where necessary, and with HMRC, trading standards, the police, or the courts where we are legally required to do so, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Business transfers

If INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD were to be sold, restructured or merge with another business, personal data may be transferred to the new owner, who would continue to be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy unless you are notified of a change.

08 — International Data Transfers

We only sell within the UK — but some of our tools do not.

We ship products to UK addresses only. However, some of the service providers described in Section 07 — such as Shopify's underlying infrastructure, certain payment processors, and analytics or advertising platforms — operate servers outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States and the European Economic Area ("EEA").

Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure an appropriate safeguard is in place before the transfer takes place, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, a UK adequacy regulation covering the destination country, or another lawful transfer mechanism recognised by the Information Commissioner's Office. You can request further detail on the safeguards used for a specific provider by contacting us using the details in Section 17.

09 — How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep data only as long as we need it.

Data type
Retention period
Order and transaction records (including invoices)
6 years from the end of the tax year in which the order was placed, as required by HMRC record-keeping rules
Customer account data
For as long as your account remains active, plus up to 2 years of inactivity before we may delete it
Marketing consent and preference records
Until you withdraw consent or unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards to record and honour your opt-out
Live chat, email and phone support records
Up to 3 years, to allow us to review previous support history if you contact us again
Warranty and returns correspondence, including photographs
For the duration of the applicable warranty or statutory guarantee period, plus 12 months
Cookie and analytics identifiers
Typically between 30 days and 24 months depending on the specific cookie, as set out in our cookie banner
10 — How We Protect Your Information

Security built into every step of checkout.

Our website uses SSL/TLS encryption to protect data in transit between your browser and our servers. Payments are processed through Shopify's PCI-DSS compliant payment infrastructure, meaning we never handle or store your full card details on our own systems. Access to customer data within our business is restricted to staff who need it to fulfil your order or provide support, and our internal systems are protected by password controls and access logging.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely infallible, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, if we become aware of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the Information Commissioner's Office within 72 hours as required by the UK GDPR, and will notify you directly where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to you.

11 — Marketing Communications and Your Choices

Opting in is easy. Opting out is easier.

We will only send you marketing emails or SMS messages about new products, restocks, and offers relating to Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads, Electrical Supplies and Sofas if you have opted in, or if you are an existing customer and have not opted out, in line with PECR and the UK GDPR. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at any time by:

Opting out of marketing does not affect order confirmation emails, delivery updates, or other essential service messages relating to a purchase you have made — these are sent under our contractual relationship with you and continue regardless of your marketing preference.

12 — Your Rights Under UK GDPR

These rights apply to everyone in the UK, without exception.

Whether you are in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 give you the following rights over your personal data, all of which apply equally across the United Kingdom:

Right of access

You can ask us to confirm what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it, free of charge.

Right to rectification

You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data, such as an old delivery address.

Right to erasure

Also known as the "right to be forgotten" — you can ask us to delete your personal data where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.

Right to restrict processing

You can ask us to pause using your data while we investigate a concern you have raised about it.

Right to data portability

Where we process data based on consent or a contract, you can ask to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.

Right to object

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you can always object to direct marketing, which we will action immediately and without question.

Rights related to automated decision-making

You have rights concerning decisions made about you solely by automated means — see Section 13 for how this applies to our business.

Right to withdraw consent

Where we rely on your consent, such as for marketing or non-essential cookies, you can withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk, call us on +44 7427 230720, or use our Privacy Opt-Out Request page. We will respond within one calendar month, as required by the UK GDPR, and we will not charge a fee unless your request is manifestly unfounded, excessive or repetitive.

13 — Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

A human always has the final say on your order.

Our payment processor uses automated fraud-screening to flag unusual transactions, for example an order placed with mismatched billing and delivery details, or an unusually large trade order for Electrical Supplies. This automated screening may temporarily delay or decline a payment, but it does not, on its own, produce a final decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on you — any order that is flagged is reviewed by a member of our team before we cancel it or ask for further verification. We do not use profiling to set individual prices, and we do not carry out any other form of automated decision-making that would significantly affect you.

14 — Children's Privacy

Our products and website are intended for adults.

Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads and Electrical Supplies are electrical products intended for use and purchase by adults, and our website and its checkout process are designed for use by people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 13, and if we become aware that we have inadvertently done so, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 17.

15 — Complaints and the Information Commissioner's Office

Talk to us first — we would rather put it right.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first at info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk so we can investigate and resolve your concern directly.

You also have the right, at any time, to lodge a complaint with the UK's independent supervisory authority for data protection, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). This right applies equally regardless of whether you live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The ICO can be contacted at ico.org.uk, by telephone on 0303 123 1113, or by post at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

16 — Changes to This Privacy Policy

We will always publish updates here, dated clearly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our business, our use of technology, or UK data protection law. Any changes will be published on this page with a revised "last updated" date at the top. Where a change is significant — for example, a new category of data collection or a new third party we share data with — we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention, such as a notice on our website or an email to registered customers, before the change takes effect.

17 — Contact Us
