Built for everyone, from plug to sofa.

OUTDOOR EXTENSION LEADS, operated by INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD, is committed to making this website — and every product on it — usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they browse with.

01 — Our commitment

Extension leads, electrical parts and sofas — usable by everyone who needs them.

We are INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD, trading as OUTDOOR EXTENSION LEADS. We sell four ranges — Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads, Electrical Supplies and Sofas — and we want every visitor, including disabled customers, older customers, and anyone browsing with assistive technology, to be able to find, understand and buy those products without unnecessary difficulty.

Some of our customers are running power to a shed for the first time, or replacing a sofa they've had for a decade. That decision deserves clear, accessible information — not a website that gets in the way.

This statement explains what we have already built to support that, where we know we still fall short, and how you can reach us directly if any part of this website or the buying process is a barrier to you. It applies to every page of www.outdoorextensionleads.co.uk, including our four product collections, our policy pages and our checkout, which runs on Shopify's platform.

02 — The standards we work to

We are a private online retailer, not a public sector body, so the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not legally apply to us. We follow the standards below voluntarily, because they are the right way to build a retail website.

WCAG 2.1, Level AA

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), are the internationally recognised benchmark for web accessibility. We treat WCAG 2.1 AA as our working target across text contrast, keyboard operation, page structure and form design, and we review our theme against it as part of every significant site update.

Equality Act 2010

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers in England, Scotland and Wales must make reasonable adjustments so that disabled customers are not put at a substantial disadvantage compared with non-disabled customers. We treat this as a floor, not a ceiling, for how our website and customer service should work.

Provision of Services Regulations 2009

These regulations require that key information about who we are, what we sell and how to contact us is presented clearly and is easy to find. Our Company & Legal information, pricing and contact details are laid out in plain terms throughout this website, including in Section 09 of this page.

Consumer Rights Act 2015

Product descriptions must be accurate and accessible so a customer can make an informed decision before buying. Our listings for extension leads, armoured cable, electrical supplies and sofas use plain-English descriptions and structured specification information rather than image-only detail, so the information is available to screen-reader users as well as sighted shoppers.

03 — Features already in place

These are live on the website today, not future promises.

Mobile-responsive layout

Every page, including all four product collections and checkout, is built to resize and reflow cleanly across desktop, tablet and mobile screens, with no horizontal scrolling or overlapping content.

Full keyboard navigation

Menus, product filters, the cart and checkout can all be reached and operated using a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline that tracks where you are on the page.

Alt text on product images

Product photos for our leads, electrical components and sofas carry descriptive alt text, so a screen reader announces what the image shows rather than skipping over it silently.

ARIA labelling & landmarks

Interactive controls such as the cart icon, search field and menu toggle carry ARIA labels, and page regions use landmark roles, so assistive technology can announce what each control does.

Colour contrast & text sizing

Body text is set against dark backgrounds at contrast ratios built to meet WCAG AA, and the layout resizes cleanly when a visitor increases their browser's text size or zoom level.

Reduced-motion support

If your device is set to reduce motion, the animated elements across this site — including on this page — shorten automatically so movement does not interfere with reading.

Consistent, predictable structure

Headings, product cards and form fields follow the same structure on every page, so returning visitors and screen-reader users can predict where to find information.

Plain-English product data

Specifications such as cable length, IP rating, current rating and sofa dimensions are written out in text and structured lists, never conveyed through colour or imagery alone.

04 — Known limitations & what we're improving

Honest about where we're not yet at WCAG 2.1 AA.

No website is perfectly accessible, and we would rather tell you exactly where we currently fall short than claim otherwise.

Third-party checkout and payment screens. Our checkout and payment pages run on Shopify's own hosted infrastructure. We choose and configure these tools carefully, but their accessibility is maintained by Shopify and our payment partners, not built by us directly, so we cannot guarantee every element of that flow meets WCAG 2.1 AA at all times.

Embedded third-party content. Elements such as our live chat widget and Instagram feed are supplied by outside providers. We select reputable providers and raise accessibility issues with them when we find one, but we do not control their underlying code.

Older product images. A small number of images added before this accessibility review may carry generic rather than fully descriptive alt text. We are working through our product catalogue — Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads, Electrical Supplies and Sofas — range by range, to bring every image up to the same standard.

Downloadable documents. Where we provide certificates or spec sheets as PDF downloads, older files may not yet be fully tagged for screen readers. New documents are checked before publishing, and we will supply the information in an accessible format on request in the meantime.

05 — Accessibility across our four ranges

We apply the same accessibility approach to how we describe every product we sell.

Outdoor Extension Leads

Cable length, socket count and IP rating are listed as plain text next to each product, not shown only inside an image, so the details reach screen-reader users in full.

View range

Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads

Colour options (black or grey) are always named in the product title and description text, never conveyed through a colour swatch alone, so they remain distinguishable without relying on colour vision.

View range

Electrical Supplies

Technical specifications for sockets, glands, junction boxes and plugs are laid out in structured, labelled fields rather than dense diagram-only pages, for trade buyers and DIY customers alike.

View range

Sofas

Fabric type, seating dimensions and care information are written out in full for every sofa listing, and fire-safety labelling detail is included in text so it is not lost to anyone who cannot see the physical label.

06 — Alternative ways to shop & get help

If the website is a barrier, we will complete the order with you another way.

You are never required to complete a purchase through the website alone. If any page, product listing or checkout step is difficult for you to use, our team can talk you through product details, take an order by phone or email, or arrange payment over the phone through Shopify's secure payment system.

This applies equally across all four ranges — whether you need help understanding the specification on an Armoured Outdoor Extension Lead, confirming a sofa's fabric before ordering, or checking the rating on an electrical component.

07 — Assistive technology & browser compatibility

We build and test this website with commonly used assistive technology and current browsers in mind, including:

Screen readers

NVDA and JAWS on Windows, and VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.

Browsers

Current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and mobile.

Input methods

Keyboard-only navigation, touchscreen gestures, and screen-magnification software.

We aim for this website to work well with the tools above, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with every assistive technology product, browser version or operating system in use. If something does not work as expected with the setup you rely on, please tell us using the details in Section 11 so we can investigate and, where possible, fix it.

08 — Third-party services & content
Shopify checkout & payments

Our checkout and card payment processing run on Shopify's platform and its integrated payment partners. Shopify publishes its own accessibility and security standards for this infrastructure, which we rely on alongside our own testing.

Live chat widget

Our live chat tool is supplied by a third-party provider. If you find it difficult to use with a screen reader or keyboard, contact us by phone or email instead using the details in Section 11, and we will assist you the same way.

Instagram feed

Where we embed our Instagram content, that embed is rendered by Instagram's own code, which we do not control. It sits alongside, not in place of, accessible text content elsewhere on the page.

Shipping & courier tracking

Order tracking links open our couriers' own tracking pages. Their accessibility is maintained by the courier, not by us; if you have difficulty tracking an order this way, contact us and we will provide the delivery status directly.

10 — Ongoing testing & review

We do not treat this as a one-off task.

We review this website against WCAG 2.1 AA whenever we make significant changes to the theme, checkout or product templates, using a combination of automated scanning tools and manual checks with a keyboard and screen reader.

Feedback from customers directly shapes this review. When a barrier is reported to us through the contact routes in Section 11, we log it, assess how many pages or products it affects, and prioritise a fix based on how much it limits access to our four ranges. This statement is updated whenever we make a material change to the accessibility of the site.

11 — How to request help or report a barrier

If you encounter a barrier anywhere on this website — including any product page across Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads, Electrical Supplies or Sofas — tell us. We treat accessibility reports as a priority, not general feedback.

When you contact us about an accessibility barrier, please tell us the page you were on, the device or assistive technology you were using, and what you were trying to do. This helps us reproduce and fix the issue rather than guess at it. We aim to acknowledge every accessibility request within one business day, and we can provide product information, pricing, or safety documents in an alternative format — such as read aloud over the phone or by email in plain text — on request.

12 — Feedback & further support

We want to hear it, even if it's small.

If you have suggestions for how we could make this website easier to use, we welcome that feedback in the same way as a formal barrier report — through the contact details in Section 11.

If you have raised an accessibility concern with us directly and feel it has not been resolved, the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) provides free, independent advice on your rights under the Equality Act 2010 and can be contacted through equalityadvisoryservice.com.
