Product Warranty Policy

This page sets out the manufacturer warranty period for each of our four product ranges, exactly what is and is not covered, and how to make a claim. It sits alongside — and never reduces — your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, explained in full in Section 08.

01 — What this warranty is, and what it isn't

The manufacturer warranty on this page is a voluntary promise from us, on top of the law — it gives you a clear, defined period during which we will put right a genuine manufacturing fault, without you needing to argue about how long "satisfactory quality" should last.

It applies to every item bought from OUTDOOR EXTENSION LEADS, operated by INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD, across our four ranges: Outdoor Extension Leads, Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads, Electrical Supplies, and Sofas. The warranty period, what's covered and what isn't are set out below by product line, because a flex-cable lead used outdoors in the rain carries different risks — and a different warranty scope — to a sofa used indoors in a living room.

This warranty is separate from, and does not replace, your statutory right to return faulty goods described in our Return & Refund Policy, or your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 described in Section 08. Where the two overlap, you can rely on whichever gives you the better outcome.

02 — Warranty period by product

These are manufacturer warranty periods, measured from the date of delivery. They apply to genuine manufacturing defects only — see Sections 03 and 04 for exactly what that means.

Product line Warranty period Covers Starts from
Outdoor Extension Leads
Flex-cable, portable
12 months Plug, cable, socket housing, switch and RCD unit (where fitted) against manufacturing defects Date of delivery
Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads
Steel-wire-armoured cable
24 months Armoured cable core, plug, socket housing, switch and RCD unit (where fitted) against manufacturing defects Date of delivery
Electrical Supplies
Sockets, glands, junction boxes, plugs
12 months Manufacturing defects in the component as supplied, before installation Date of delivery
Sofas
Fabric, velvet, chenille
24 months frame & 12 months fabric/foam Frame integrity (joints, timber or metal structure) for 24 months; cover fabric seams, zips and foam fillings for 12 months, against manufacturing defects Date of delivery
Different from our statutory obligations

These periods are our manufacturer promise, not a limit on your legal rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you may have rights to a repair, replacement or refund for up to six years from delivery (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) if a fault was present when the item was supplied — see Section 08 and Section 09 for how this varies by nation.

03 — What's covered

Manufacturing defects

Faulty components, incorrect wiring, poor workmanship, or an assembly error present in the product as it left us — not caused by how it's been used since.

Broken sockets or plugs

A socket, switch or plug that fails, loosens, or stops making proper contact under normal use, where the fault traces back to the component itself rather than external damage.

Cable faults within normal use

Internal cable damage — a break in conductors or insulation failure — that develops during ordinary, intended use of the product and is not the result of cutting, crushing, or external damage.

Sofa structural failure

Torn seams, split frame joints, snapped support timbers, or foam that has genuinely failed prematurely due to a manufacturing fault rather than years of ordinary use.

The test we apply

Our question when assessing a claim is simple: was this fault present in the product, or caused by how the product was manufactured? If yes, it's covered. If the issue developed because of how the product was used, installed, or looked after, see Section 04.

04 — What's not covered

Excluded from this warranty

✕ Damage from misuse, accident, or neglect

✕ Weather exposure beyond the product's stated rating — for example, using a lead without an outdoor IP rating outside, or leaving a product submerged or in standing water

✕ Improper installation, or cutting, splicing or otherwise modifying cables and connectors

✕ Use beyond the stated amperage, socket count, or environment the product is rated for

✕ Normal wear and tear from ordinary, expected use over time

✕ Dirt, staining, fading, or other purely cosmetic issues that don't affect how the product functions

Common exclusion example

Using a standard (non-RCD) flex-cable lead permanently outdoors, buried, or left connected through winter is outside its intended use, described in our Product Safety & Compliance Policy. Damage arising from that kind of use is not covered under this warranty, even within the stated period.

Wear and tear, explained

Wear and tear means the gradual, expected loss of condition every product experiences with age and regular use — a socket that becomes slightly stiffer after thousands of insertions, or sofa fabric that softens with regular sitting. This is normal, not a defect, and sits outside manufacturer warranty cover on any product.

05 — How to make a warranty claim

Contact us with the details

Email info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk with your order number, a description of the fault, and clear photos (or a short video) showing the issue. For electrical products, please also confirm how and where the product was being used when the fault appeared.

What we ask you to provide

— Your order number or proof of purchase

— Photos or video clearly showing the fault

— A short description of when the fault appeared and how the product was being used

— The product's delivery date, if not shown on your order confirmation

Timeline

Please report a suspected fault as soon as you notice it, and always within the warranty period stated in Section 02 for that product. We aim to respond to every warranty claim within one business day, and to confirm the outcome of our assessment within 5 business days of receiving your photos or the returned item, whichever applies.

Faulty on arrival?

If a product is faulty when it arrives, tell us immediately — this is covered by your 30-day right to reject faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 as well as this warranty, and we will resolve it quickly.

01 — Report

Email us with your order number, photos and a description of the fault.

02 — Assess

We review the evidence against Sections 03 and 04 within 5 business days.

03 — Confirm

We confirm whether the claim is covered, and the remedy we're offering.

04 — Resolve

We repair, replace, or refund, as set out in Section 06.

06 — How we fulfil a valid claim

Once a claim is confirmed as covered, we'll agree the right remedy with you based on the product and the fault.

Repair

Where practical — for example, replacing a faulty plug or socket assembly on an otherwise sound lead — we will repair the item at no cost to you.

Replacement

Where a repair isn't practical or the fault affects the core of the product, we'll send a replacement of the same item, made to the same specification you originally ordered.

Refund

Where neither a repair nor a replacement is possible or appropriate, we will issue a full or partial refund reflecting the covered fault.

07 — Notes specific to each product line
Outdoor & Armoured Extension Leads

Because these are made to your chosen cable length, our Return & Refund Policy only permits returns for faulty items — but this Warranty Policy still gives you 12 or 24 months of manufacturing-defect cover regardless of the made-to-order status. A fault appearing at month 8 is still a valid warranty claim.

Electrical Supplies

Warranty cover applies to the component as supplied. Once a gland, socket or junction box has been installed, damage caused by incorrect fitting (for example, an incorrectly sealed gland letting in water) is an installation issue, not a manufacturing defect, and falls under the exclusions in Section 04.

Sofas

Frame and fabric/foam cover run on different timelines because they fail differently — a frame joint failing is almost always a manufacturing issue, while cushion fillings naturally soften faster under regular use, which is why fabric and foam carry a shorter 12-month window.

08 — Your statutory rights are not affected

This warranty does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You have separate legal rights to a refund, repair or replacement for faulty goods, which exist independently of anything on this page.

Consumer Rights Act 2015

Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. You have a short-term right to reject faulty goods for a full refund within 30 days of delivery. Between 30 days and six months, you're entitled to a repair or replacement first; if that fails, a refund or price reduction follows. Beyond six months and up to six years from delivery, you may still have a claim if you can show the fault was present, or developing, when the product was supplied — this applies to every product we sell.

Consumer Protection Act 1987

If a defective product causes damage or injury, this Act gives you a route to claim compensation independent of your contract with us and independent of this warranty.

How this warranty and your statutory rights work together

This warranty gives you a clear, no-argument route to a repair, replacement or refund within the stated period for a manufacturing defect. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 run alongside it and can extend further, particularly for faults that were present at the point of sale. Where our warranty and your statutory rights differ, you're entitled to whichever gives you the better outcome, and we will always honour your statutory rights in full.

Relationship to our other policies

This Product Warranty Policy works alongside our Return & Refund Policy, Product Safety & Compliance Policy, Shipping Policy and Terms of Service. None of these policies limits or reduces your statutory rights; where they go further than the legal minimum, that is an enhancement only.

09 — How this applies across the UK's nations

We currently ship to UK addresses only. Our warranty periods and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply the same way across Great Britain and Northern Ireland — what can differ is how a dispute is enforced if it isn't resolved directly with us.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies fully across England and Wales. If a warranty or statutory rights dispute cannot be resolved directly with us, you can bring a claim through the small claims track of the County Court, and free, independent advice is available from Citizens Advice and the Trading Standards service covering your local authority.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies equally in Scotland. Unresolved disputes can be brought through the Simple Procedure in the Scottish Sheriff Court, which is Scotland's equivalent route for lower-value consumer claims. Citizens Advice Scotland and Trading Standards Scotland can also provide free guidance.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 also applies in Northern Ireland. Unresolved disputes can be brought through the Small Claims procedure in the Northern Ireland courts, and free advice is available from Consumerline and Citizens Advice Northern Ireland.

In every case, we would always encourage you to contact us first using the details in Section 10 — the great majority of warranty issues are resolved directly and quickly without needing to involve a third party.
