Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy
This page explains your 14-day statutory right to cancel an online order for any reason, which products it applies to, the exceptions that apply to our made-to-order extension leads, and exactly how a cancellation and refund is processed. It is separate from returning goods because they are faulty — see Section 07 for that distinction.
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a statutory right to cancel most online orders within 14 days of delivery — for any reason, or no reason at all.
This is different from choosing not to keep something because you've changed your mind after using it, and different again from returning something because it's faulty. It's a straightforward "cooling-off" right that the law gives you simply because you bought without seeing the item in person first.
Your 14-day cancellation period runs from the day after you (or someone you nominate) receives the goods. If your order is delivered in several parts, the 14 days runs from the day you receive the last part.
This statutory right sits alongside our own voluntary 30-day return window, described in our Return & Refund Policy — you can rely on whichever gives you a better outcome for your order, and both are honoured in full.
The 14-day cancellation right applies to almost everything we sell. It does not apply to goods made to your specification — which is why our extension leads work differently from the rest of our range.
| Product line | 14-day cancellation right | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor Extension Leads | Excluded, unless faulty | Cut and wired to your chosen cable length — a bespoke, made-to-order specification under Regulation 28. Faulty items are always covered regardless of this exclusion. |
| Armoured Outdoor Extension Leads | Excluded, unless faulty | Also cut and wired to your chosen cable length and specification — the same made-to-order exception applies as for standard Outdoor Extension Leads. |
| Electrical Supplies | 14-day right applies | Stocked components (sockets, glands, junction boxes, plugs) sold as standard items, not made or personalised to individual order. |
| Sofas | 14-day right applies | Standard range items, not made to bespoke customer specification. |
Made-to-order goods
Not covered by the 14-day right. Our Outdoor and Armoured Extension Leads are cut and assembled to your chosen length, which is a personalised specification under Regulation 28 of the 2013 Regulations.
Goods that deteriorate quickly
Not applicable to any product we sell. We do not sell perishable goods, so this exception does not affect any item in our current range.
Sealed goods (hygiene)
Not applicable. None of our products are sealed for health or hygiene reasons in a way that would make them unsuitable to return once unsealed.
Digital products
Not applicable. We do not sell digital content or downloads — every product we sell is a physical item delivered to a UK address.
Tell us within 14 days
Email info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk with a clear statement that you wish to cancel your order. Please include your order number, and a reason if you'd like to share one — though you are not required to give a reason under the 2013 Regulations.
You can use the model cancellation wording in the box opposite, use our contact form, or simply write to us in your own words — any clear statement of your decision to cancel is valid, as long as we receive it within your 14-day window.
To: INDOOR & OUTDOOR FURNISHINGS LTD, info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following goods: [describe the goods]
Ordered on: [date] | Received on: [date]
Order number: [your order number]
Name: [your name] | Address: [your address]
Condition required
Goods must be returned unused, undamaged, and in their original packaging wherever possible, with all accessories, manuals and components included. You may examine the goods as you reasonably would in a shop, but excessive handling beyond that may result in a deduction from your refund to reflect any reduction in value.
Timeframe to send goods back
Once you've told us you're cancelling, you have 14 days to send the goods back to us, or to arrange collection if that's how your return is being handled.
Return shipping cost
Please contact us at info@outdoorextensionleads.co.uk to start your cancellation — we will confirm the return method for your specific order, including whether a prepaid return label is provided or whether you should arrange your own return shipping. Unless we tell you otherwise, the standard cost of returning goods under this statutory right is borne by you as the customer; this is separate from returns for faulty goods, where we cover the cost in full — see Section 07.
If the value of an item is reduced because of handling beyond what's needed to check it — for example, a sofa that's been used and marked, or an electrical component that's been fitted and removed — we may deduct an amount reflecting that loss in value from your refund. We will always explain any deduction clearly before it's applied.
You send your cancellation notice within 14 days of delivery.
You send the goods back within 14 days of telling us you're cancelling.
We check the returned item is unused, undamaged and complete.
Refunded to your original payment method within 10 business days of receiving the goods.
Refunds are always issued to your original payment method — we do not offer store credit in place of a refund unless you specifically ask for one. Your card or bank provider may take a few additional days to display the refund once it's been issued.
We do not charge a restocking fee. The only deduction that may apply is for diminished value caused by handling beyond what's reasonably needed to inspect the item, as described in Section 04 — and we'll always explain any such deduction clearly.
If you cancel your entire order under this 14-day right, we will refund the standard delivery cost you paid, since our standard delivery is free of charge on every order this typically means there is no delivery charge to refund. If you chose and paid for our £30.00 express delivery upgrade and then cancel your order in full, we will refund the basic standard delivery cost equivalent; the extra amount you paid for express delivery, being your choice of a more expensive service than our standard option, is not refundable under the 2013 Regulations.
If you only cancel part of a multi-item order, delivery costs are not refunded unless the remaining items in your order no longer qualify for free standard delivery.
Cancellation (this page)
A statutory 14-day cooling-off right that applies simply because you bought online — you can change your mind for any reason. Return shipping is normally at your cost, and the made-to-order exception applies to our extension leads. Covered by the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Faulty, damaged or not-as-described goods
A completely separate right that applies at any point a product is faulty, including outside the 14-day and 30-day windows. This is covered in full in our Return & Refund Policy, our Product Warranty Policy, and your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — and it always includes our extension leads, even though they're excluded from voluntary and statutory cancellation.
If you simply don't want the item anymore, this Cancellation Policy applies (with the made-to-order exception for leads). If the item is faulty, damaged on arrival, or not what was described, our Return & Refund Policy and Product Warranty Policy apply instead — and those rights are never excluded, whatever product you've bought.
We currently ship to UK addresses only. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 apply identically across the whole of the UK — what differs by nation, if a dispute isn't resolved directly with us, is which court or advice body handles it.
The 14-day cancellation right applies in full across England and Wales. If a cancellation or refund dispute cannot be resolved directly with us, you can bring a claim through the small claims track of the County Court, and free, independent advice is available from Citizens Advice and your local authority's Trading Standards service.
The same 14-day right applies in Scotland under the same UK-wide Regulations. Unresolved disputes can be brought through the Simple Procedure in the Scottish Sheriff Court, and Citizens Advice Scotland and Trading Standards Scotland offer free guidance.
The 14-day right applies equally in Northern Ireland. Unresolved disputes can be brought through the Small Claims procedure in the Northern Ireland courts, with free advice available from Consumerline and Citizens Advice Northern Ireland.
In every case, contact us first using the details in Section 09 — the great majority of cancellations are handled directly and refunded well within the 10-business-day timeframe we aim for.
